CLEANING SYSTEM

The cleaning requirements of the Filtrex Filter System is dependant on the water quality being filtered and the quantity of water being filtered.  Several cleaning mechanisms and media to remove particulate deposited on the filter elements  were investigated:

·          An external water spray

·          An internal reverse flow with filtered water

·          An internal reverse flow of air

·          An externally mounted vibrating device

·          A reverse flow of an air/water mix

At the conclusion of a rigorous testing program it was determined that an air/water mixture administered   via a pressure chamber attached to each individual sheet of candles (filters) was the most cost effective way to remove debris buildup and keep the  small filter element passages open.

The illustrations below describes how the cleaning system operates:

1.         Internal slide plate closes

2.         Low pressure water is back flowed for a short period (5-10 sec) to gently remove impinged organisms from the candle.

3.         Higher pressure air is introduced and an air/water burst is imposed in the pressure chamber and exhausts through the

        candles providing a cleaning action.

4.         The air is shutoff and water is purged through the candles to remove any residual air pockets

5.         The slide plate is open and the candles revert to the filtering mode
